Nick James Foot Phaser
Foxx Foot Phaser V1 recreation with 10 hand-matched JFETs, designed with Brian May tone in mind.
The PastFX Nick James Foot Phaser is a collaboration with Nick James of Peril Pedals, recreating the 1970s Foxx Foot Phaser V1 made famous by Brian May of Queen. The circuit requires 10 hand-matched JFET transistors, with PastFX testing thousands of individual transistors by hand to find matching sets that produce the perfect phase.
Three controls keep operation straightforward: Speed sets the LFO rate, Depth adjusts modulation intensity, and a 2-way Slow/Fast range toggle switch selects the LFO speed range. An expression jack allows use with a treadle pedal for foot-controlled speed, recreating the original Foxx design's treadle functionality in a modern compact stompbox format.
The circuit operates on the same bipolar voltages as the original from a standard 9VDC supply. LED indicator shows effect status. Neutrik instrument jacks and Lumberg DC socket. Compact powder-coated enclosure with UV-printed graphic. Drawing approximately 10mA at 9VDC center-negative. Handmade in Brisbane, Australia.
