Power Drive
Colorsound Power Boost reimagined with charge pump and voltage sag control down to 3V.
IdiotBox Effects revisits the legendary Colorsound Power Boost with their Power Drive, adding modern conveniences while preserving that raw, dirty boost character that defined early 70s rock tones.
The original Colorsound ran on 18V for massive headroom and output. The Power Drive recreates this using an internal charge pump that converts your standard 9V supply to approximately 17V internally. But IdiotBox went further, adding a voltage control that lets you dial the internal voltage anywhere from full 17V down to 3V for sputtery, gated, dying-battery textures.
At full voltage you get high-headroom overdrive with crispy highs and solid low end, avoiding the compressed sound of many similar effects. Roll the voltage down and the pedal starves, producing old-school velcro fuzz sounds and glitchy artifacts. The modified EQ circuit keeps things musical throughout the range.
Housed in a 125B enclosure with true bypass, the Power Drive draws 16mA from a standard 9V center-negative supply. A versatile drive that covers clean boost to destroyed fuzz with one knob twist.
