Tone Axe
Frequency divider fuzz that transforms high pitches into powerful sub-octave tones.
LastGasp Art Laboratories was founded by Hirofumi Uchino in Tokyo in 1992, with roots in the experimental noise scene. After relocating to Sydney, Australia in 2005, Hiro rebuilt the entire production line from scratch, creating wildly unconventional effects championed by noise and experimental artists worldwide.
The Tone Axe is a frequency divider pedal with pronounced fuzz characteristics. Unlike standard octave pedals, a frequency divider literally halves the input frequency, creating synthetic sub-octave tones. The effect changes dramatically based on input - high single notes transform into powerful low-pitched fuzz, while complex input creates jet-like swooshing sounds.
Three controls shape the sound: Level sets output, Sens adjusts how the circuit responds to your playing, and Divide controls the frequency division amount. A CV pedal input allows foot control over the Divide parameter for real-time manipulation. The name 'Tone Axe' reflects the powerful, solid character of the divided signal.
