Martian Tarantula
Aggressive octave fuzz with ring modulator tendencies. Wild, untamed tones.
The Martian Tarantula is based on the Tone Bender Mk1 — the earliest fuzz pedal design — redesigned with silicon transistors tuned to sound like vintage germanium units while maintaining temperature stability and unit-to-unit consistency.
Volume and Overload controls. The Overload knob (renamed from the original circuit's "Attack" bias control, which was unreliable) acts as a voicing control: full up delivers extra fat and woofy/slightly saggy tone, middle is balanced and tight, full down goes extra dry and gated/slightly cold-biased. Angry sounding but fairly well-behaved, with decent guitar volume cleanup and excellent midrange cut.
Captures the sound of rare, expensive Tone Bender Mk1 originals in a reliable silicon format. Handmade in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. True bypass.
