Bender
Tonebender MkII with AC125/1T313V germanium transistors, external bias knob, voltage inverter—9V daisy-chain compatible.
TOMKAT Pedals and Electronics operates from Brooklyn, New York, founded in 2015 by Tom Kogut as one-man operation designing, assembling, and shipping pedals. The Bender recreates the legendary Sola Sound Tonebender Professional Mark II with several modifications enhancing the circuit for modern pedalboard integration and tonal flexibility. NOS (new old stock) AC125 and 1T313V germanium transistors provide the temperature-sensitive, touch-responsive character that made 1960s germanium fuzzes legendary.
Capacitor values changed for increased low-end response, external bias knob (Text) added for last transistor in circuit. Text control adjusts bias from mushy CCW to crunchy CW, allowing real-time texture adjustment during performance. Level controls volume, Fuzz controls saturation amount. Unlike vintage Tonebenders requiring reverse-polarity power, the Bender includes voltage inverter circuit to provide proper negative voltage to transistors while accepting standard boss-style negative center 9V power—allowing daisy-chaining with other pedals without special power considerations. Increased output compared to vintage units addresses the common complaint that original Tonebenders lacked volume.
9V center-negative power, daisy-chainable, no battery option. Artwork by tattoo artist Liam Sparkes. The Bender targets players seeking authentic Tonebender MkII fuzz with modern convenience, suitable for psychedelic rock, garage rock, and blues where sloppy, uninhibited germanium fuzz character drives the musical aggression without requiring vintage power supplies or temperature babysitting.
