Ripper
Ibanez Standard Fuzz clone—octave fuzz with CLIP switch (germanium/silicon) and TONE switch (scooped/boosted mids), 9V.
The Ripper recreates the classic late-1960s Ibanez Standard Fuzz, an upper octave fuzz similar to the Univox Super Fuzz. Octave fuzz circuits double the input signal one octave higher, creating harmonically rich, aggressive tones that made tracks by Jimi Hendrix and early grunge records legendary. The circuit generates both fundamental guitar tone and octave-up content, with octave tracking strongest on single notes played above the 12th fret.
Level controls volume, Fuzz adjusts saturation. CLIP switch (two positions) selects clipping diode type: down position uses two old stock OA-90 germanium diodes for smoother, warmer clipping with softer compression; up position uses two modern 1N914 silicon diodes for harder, more aggressive clipping with faster attack. TONE switch provides scooped mids (like Big Muff) for thick, bassy fuzz, or boosted mids for octavia-ish fuzz character with more midrange punch and articulation.
Handmade construction with artwork by tattoo artist Liam Sparkes. 9V boss-style center-negative power, daisy-chainable, no battery option, true bypass. The Ripper targets players seeking vintage octave fuzz textures without hunting for rare Shin-Ei or Univox pedals on vintage market, suitable for psychedelic rock, garage rock, and experimental music where upper octave content creates disorienting, otherworldly fuzz tones impossible with standard fuzz circuits.
