Woodchipper
Bass octave fuzz with clean blend and bottom control for punchy sub-bass—gritty fuzz with low-end punch, 9V.
The Woodchipper addresses the common bass fuzz problem: standard fuzz circuits lose low-end definition and punch, making bass disappear in dense band mixes. Bass octave fuzz generates one-octave-down sub-bass content while applying fuzz saturation, thickening tone without losing fundamental frequency clarity. Clean blend mixes unfuzzed bass signal with fuzzed octave-down content, allowing players to maintain note definition while adding harmonic dirt.
The unique bottom control adds punchy, clean sub-bass independent from the fuzz circuit, providing additional low-frequency reinforcement beyond the octave generator. This three-way approach (clean bass + octave fuzz + bottom control) allows precise balancing of clarity, saturation, and sub-bass punch. Unlike guitar fuzz pedals repurposed for bass, the Woodchipper maintains low-end integrity throughout the gain range, ensuring bass remains present and powerful even at maximum fuzz settings.
Standard 2.1mm center-negative 9V DC power. DIY design files available for $2. The Woodchipper targets bass players seeking aggressive fuzz tones without sacrificing low-end power and definition, suitable for stoner rock, doom metal, and funk where gritty, saturated bass drives the musical foundation while maintaining mix presence and physical impact.
