The Merman represents VFE's take on the legendary Klon Centaur overdrive circuit, adding expanded control over the three signal pathways that create the Klon's unique transparent tone. The original Klon combines clean signal, buffered signal, and clipped signal in specific proportions creating its signature transparent overdrive character—the Merman exposes these three pathways for independent adjustment rather than hiding them inside fixed circuit values.
Controlling all three pathways independently allows players to dial from standard Klon-style transparent overdrive through modified tonal variations impossible with the original circuit. Adjust the clean blend for more clarity, alter the buffer pathway for different frequency response, modify the clipping pathway for varying saturation character. This expanded control transforms the Klon topology from single fixed voice into versatile transparent overdrive platform. The VFE-ification maintains Klon's core character while providing tonal flexibility the original lacked.
